Cinnamon is the inner bark of a tropical evergreen tree from the genus Cinnamomum. Cinnamon bark is used as a spice. It is principally employed in cookery as a condiment and flavoring material. Cinnamon is considered a very good source of manganese, dietary fiber, and calcium, and a good source of iron and vitamin K. It is also low in cholesterol and saturated fats and contains trace amounts of several vitamins. Traditionally, the bark or oil has been used to combat microorganisms, diarrhea, and other GI disorders, and dysmenorrhea, however, there is no scientific evidence to prove this so far.
